The Ghoul (Ken Kaneki)
Lore Overview
Ken Kaneki had once been a gentle student of literature, content to spend his days buried in novels with his best friend. That life ended the night he walked Rize Kamishiro home. She was no ordinary woman, but a predator—a ghoul who nearly devoured him before fate intervened in a violent accident. To save his life, doctors transplanted Rize’s organs into Kaneki’s broken body, unknowingly cursing him with her monstrous hunger.
Food turned to ash in his mouth, replaced by an insatiable craving for human flesh. Terrified and alone, Kaneki stumbled into the world of ghouls, where he was taken in by the staff of Anteiku café. There, he struggled to balance his humanity with his new instincts, learning to fight with his kagune while resisting the urge to kill.
But Kaneki’s torment only deepened—hunted by humans, mistrusted by ghouls, and haunted by the monster within. His desperate battle for identity, torn between two worlds, would one day draw the attention of a far greater darkness: the Entity, which saw in him the perfect embodiment of suffering, survival, and hunger.
